A number of pregnant women will enter isolation after a patient at a Melbourne maternity hospital tested positive for Covid-19.

The patient tested positive midweek after she visited the women’s outpatient clinic on Monday.

Mercy Hospital for Women in Melbourne’s northeast has now been declared a tier-1 Covid-19 exposure site.

A spokesman for Mercy Hospital confirmed 120 patients, visitors, and staff had since been contacted who were considered to be at risk of exposure and were in the area at the time.

These individuals are now required to isolate immediately to prevent further spread of the virus.

The Mercy Spokesman confirmed to NCA NewsWire that the 120 contacts included a number of pregnant women.

“Mercy Health has contacted patients and staff who were considered to be at risk of exposure and who were in the area at the time,” he said.

“The hospital is taking an exceptionally cautious approach and in line with Department of Health advice has advised any patient at risk to get tested and isolate for 14 days.”
